Tell us about your business and how got started
I am the owner and sole Eyelash Technician/Soon-to-be PMU Artist at Visionary Lashes. My business is home-based and I’m proud of it! I actually used to be a paralegal, however after I had my son I knew I wanted to make a change and work for myself! Towards the end of my maternity leave, I pulled the trigger, gave my notice to work and began my adventure in the beauty industry.
Who introduced you to entrepreneurship?
My Dad! Sadly he passed away a few years ago but for as long as I can remember he was running his own businesses and living that entrepreneurial lifestyle! From owning a car dealership to owning and building an Eco-friendly community in Belize! My mom used to ban the game monopoly from our family game night because he was a savage and then taught me his tricks (I say with a massive smile on my face).
Biggest Struggle In Entrepreneurship?
I would say my biggest struggle is setting boundaries. I don’t give myself set work hours. So even if I’m not physically working on a client, I am often doing lots of other behind the scenes work (ordering inventory, content creation, marketing strategies, booking/writing back clients etc). I have a hard time choosing to put my phone away and/or leave messages unread and setting those boundaries.
Biggest Win In Entrepreneurship?
My biggest win(s) is when I’m booked solid for a couple of weeks in advance. This shows me that the work I have been putting in is paying off and I feel proud in those moments.
Favourite way to celebrate your wins?
I guess it depends on the type of win! If it’s a financial win, I love to treat myself to something special (Hehe). That being said, as cheesy as it may sound, I typically would treat my business to something! I get so excited about ordering new products or fancy gadgets.
What Inspires you?
I get a lot of my inspiration and motivation from other women in business (both in and out of my particular industry). Seeing where they are at or how they built their business definitely keeps my fire going and keeps me striving for my goals!
What is Your Morning Routine?
It depends on my day! Some days I’m lashing during the day and some I’m with my toddler and lashing in the evening. If it’s a day of lashing then I wake up, get my son (he usually lets me know when it’s time to wake). We go downstairs and I have my tea while he eats his breakfast. Then he either plays toys or watches his favourite cartoon while I quickly get myself together and get him ready for the day. We then take a nice short walk over to his daycare down the street and I come back and am ready for clients!
3 Lessons You Have Learned In Business
The 3 lessons I have learned are: 1. Never underestimate the power of a good marketing strategy
2. As a business owner, you are always on the clock. Set boundaries so you can take the time to separate yourself from your business. Pick and choose your battles for crossing this line (something I’m still working on as I mentioned before).
3. Don’t wait until tax time to track your money. You should check up on your income vs your expenses. Make sure you are comfortable with those numbers so (if possible) you can adjust your spending.

Take advantage of the world we live in today with all the different social media outlets! Put yourself out there! Share your business (whether it be a product or service) and share yourself as well! Be vulnerable and let your personality shine.
What is something you wish you knew that you know now when you started your business?
Hmm, that’s a great question. There are likely many things but what comes to mind right away is related to buying inventory. I overstocked right away and trusted that I would want a certain companies product before really getting myself established and seeing what works best for me. I wish I knew that I didn’t have to drop so much money right away and that the essentials were fine. I have a ton of product that went to waste because I ordered so much before discovering it wasn’t the right product for me!
What would you say to someone who looking to start their own business but scared?
I would tell them that being scared is normal but to not let that hold them back. If they let fear get in the way then they will never know what could have been.
